Africa’s literati on awards roll-call
Chinua Achebe, undoubtedly, the grandfather of the African novel in English was befittingly awarded the Man Booker Prize to wade off competition from writers such as Margaret Atwood, Ian Renkin. Achebe came into prominence with the publication of his first novel, Things Fall Apart, in 1958. He is now a distinguished Professor of literature in America.

Chimamanda Adichie Ngozi probably Africa’s rising star on the literary circuit won the 2007 Orange Prize for her accomplished second novel Half of a Yellow Sun. The novel set in Nigeria during the Biafara war has received much critical acclaim. Her debut publication, Purple Hibiscus was also well received world-wide.
